Production: Thoughts about 30day Collage Challenge
I have been working hard to focus
solely on this piece of work - 30 collages over 30days, using a
combination of an old piece of work and waste materials from that day.
The work has a set of parameters - overall time, materials, source of materials, time for each collage (1hr)
Concept-wise - Im looking at the idea of the finished piece, what is that? the continuous cycle of the artwork as an object, production, consumption, renewal and circulation. A cyclical process which is never-ending. The work also links to the idea of waste materials. What is it? Is art once is has been consumed waste? Questioning ideas of waste. At what point does an object become waste?
The work also questions the idea of artistic freedom, the constraints faced in production and looking at ways to overcome this through one the one hand a set of parameters, but within the parameters the idea of ‘doing whatever I please’. Looking at constraints and boundaries and playing with this idea of the self in these contexts.
